4a Aldermaston to Abingdon
4b Abingdon to Oxford
4c Oxford to err well Oxford actually
You can see this journey in reverse when I came down the Thames from Oxford to Reading in 2015.
Lots of Thames information to be found here at thames.me.uk
I had brought my 'good' camera with me though as I wanted the long focal length lens so as to emulate some of the photographs in a book I have called 'Down the Thames, photographic memories' this is a compilation of photographs from the
Francis Firth collection of postcards. I have had the book from early days on Cribbit and have put in it contemporary shots of some of the places in the book. Of course, the photographs are in copyright so I have not been able put them into this narrative but some of the links via
thames.me.uk do have them so following these links should ultimately lead you to the Francis Firth photograph.
Overnighted on the
Abingdon 3 links moorings which extend on both sides of the bridge and not just on the downstream side as shown on the map. In the morning we went for a walk round town, looking for venues depicted in the
'Down the Thames, photographic memories' book.
